Liverpool, MSY Travel Guide
Welcome to Liverpool, MSY!
Liverpool is one of the largest and most influential cities in the United Kingdom. The busy port in the northwest of England is commonly associated with the talent that has continually represented its music scene and, of course, the Beatles. Initially formed as the Quarrymen by John Lennon and Paul McCartney, Lennon's name is now proudly prefixed onto the moniker of Liverpool's airport, and McCartney was knighted in 1997 for his services to the industry.
The city takes its name from the mythical Liver bird, two huge statues of which can be found on top of the Royal Liver Building. The docks along the River Mersey have long been the heart and soul of the city, and its warehouses and quays are now converted into museums, offices, hotels and restaurants. For a look at Liverpudlian life before the industrial explosion, check out Speke Hall, a well-restored example of Tudor era living. Another enduring passion is football, with Liverpool FC being England's most successful club, and rivals Everton are one of the oldest teams in the world.
